ABOUT US

The interscholastic athletic program at McKinley High School is an integral part of the educational program. We focus on developing the student's full potential physically and mentally while promoting moral integrity and social responsibility. Furthermore, the value of athletics is that it provides a laboratory of activities which contribute to the total development of an individual, and to a greater degree, qualities of the human spirit; among these are courage, discipline, loyalty, commitment to excellence, and cooperation.

GOALS OF OUR ATHLETIC PROGRAM
  • To provide wholesome opportunities for students to develop from their experiences, favorable habits and attitudes of social and group living in a democratic society.

  • To instill the desire to win.

  • To provide a positive experience for all participants.

  • To help each athlete develop to his/her full potential physically and intellectually while nurturing his/her social and emotional growth.

  • To exhibit good sportsmanship.

  • To contribute to the development of a well-rounded individual including positive character traits, loyalty, discipline, cooperation, fair play, commitment to excellence, patience, tolerance, perseverance, and responsibility.

  • To provide a common area of interest around which the school and community can build loyalties and unity.

  • To maximize the number of participants in each sport and provide a safe environment where successful experiences occur.

OUR  Coaching Staff

Coaching staff of McKinley Athletics are required to attend the annual coaching staff meeting & training as a part of
their duties.

We believe that the success of any program depends on
the personnel who direct it. Without well-qualified and competent personnel, neither ideal facilities nor the best
of equipment will do much to improve the program.

Thus, in selecting a coach, the main consideration is his/her qualifications as an educator and as a coach, his/her effectiveness as a teacher, his/her ability to develop character, and his/her ability to instill and develop a competitive spirit in our student-athletes are vital attributes in a successful coach.

Our head coaches have an understanding of knowledge in educational psychology, physiology, and training principles.

We select the head coach of any sport based on the his/her experience, emotional control, understanding, loyalty, responsibility, professional conduct, and cooperation.
